MIKAELS is committed to ensuring that mikaels.co is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We treat accessibility as part of the craft, not a checkbox — the same care that goes into a hand-fabricated band goes into making sure the digital experience is usable by anyone who wants to commission one.
Standards we work to
This site is built and maintained against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, with ongoing improvements toward Level AAA where they do not compromise the visual identity of the brand. We also align our practices with the relevant requirements of the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) and the United States Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
What we have done
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element (champagne ring with high-contrast outer halo).
- Full keyboard navigation across the entire site, including the cart drawer, FAQ accordions, and the checkout flow.
- Semantic HTML with descriptive alt text on every meaningful image, real heading hierarchy, and ARIA landmarks for navigation, main content and footer.
- Form fields with explicit labels (not placeholder-only) and required-field indicators.
- Colour contrast checked on every text/background pair; nav links lightened above WCAG AA threshold.
- Multiple navigation pathways — primary nav, footer, search, sitemap and breadcrumbs — to satisfy WCAG 2.4.5.
- Respect for prefers-reduced-motion: animations and parallax are softened or stopped when the operating system requests reduced motion.
Known limitations
Some third-party Shopify checkout components are partially outside our direct control. Where we know of an accessibility limitation, we work with the vendor to resolve it and document it here. If you encounter a barrier that is not listed, please tell us — we treat that as a real bug, not a feature request.
