Honest about what's refundable.
MIKAELS is a one-maker goldsmithing atelier. Most pieces are hand fabricated to commission, which affects how returns work. Please read this policy carefully before placing an order.
1. Editions and stock pieces — 14-day return
If you purchase a numbered Edition (such as Sanctus I) or any in-stock piece, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for a full refund. The piece must arrive back at the atelier:
- Unworn, with no signs of wear, sizing or alteration
- In its original packaging including the hallmark certificate
- Insured for the full purchase price during return shipping
Once we receive and inspect the piece, the refund is issued to the original payment method within seven working days. Original shipping costs are refunded; return shipping is at the customer's expense.
2. Truly Bespoke commissions
Pieces commissioned through the Truly Bespoke open-commission process are made specifically for you. Once fabrication has begun — that is, once you have approved the sketch and quote and metal has been cut — these commissions are non-refundable, except in the cases described in section 4 below.
We work hard to prevent surprises. Every commission begins with a written sketch and a fixed quote that you approve before any metal is touched. If you change your mind during the design phase, before fabrication begins, we refund any deposit in full, less any verifiable design or material costs already incurred.
3. Sizing
Sizing is agreed before fabrication. We send a free professional ring-sizer set on request and recommend using it for any first-time commission so the size we cut to is the right one.
Once a piece is made, what is possible depends on the design:
- Eternity rings, where stones run all the way around the band, cannot be resized after fabrication. The size set at sketch approval is the size for life.
- Most other rings can be sized up or down within a reasonable range. Resizing is quoted per case and carried out at the atelier; it is not a free service.
We will tell you up-front, before fabrication begins, which category your piece falls into. Sizing changes are not a basis for refund.
4. Faults, damage or misdescription
If a piece arrives damaged, develops a defect not caused by ordinary wear, or does not match the agreed specification, please email contact@mikaels.co within 14 days of delivery with photographs. We will, at our option:
- Repair the piece at no charge
- Remake the piece if repair is not possible
- Refund the full purchase price including shipping
This applies to commissioned pieces and stock pieces equally and is in addition to any rights you have under Danish consumer law (Købeloven) and the EU Consumer Sales Directive 2019/771.
5. EU right of withdrawal
If you are an EU consumer, you have the right to withdraw from the purchase of stock pieces within 14 days of delivery without giving any reason, under the Danish Consumer Contracts Act (Forbrugeraftaleloven). This right does not apply to goods made or clearly personalized to your specifications, which includes Truly Bespoke commissions.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, email contact@mikaels.co with the order number and the words "I wish to withdraw" before the 14-day deadline.
6. How to start a return
Email contact@mikaels.co with your order number and the reason. We respond within one working day with shipping instructions and a return reference. Please do not return pieces without first contacting us — uninsured returns are not our responsibility in transit.
